Week 1

Hello, My name is Misty Bennett. This is my second semester at Brandman University. I have an AS in child development and I am currently working on obtaining my Bachelors Degree in Liberal Studies. My future goal is to have the credentials I need to someday teach kindergarten.

I am a preschool teacher now, which I truly love. I enjoy going to work everyday and have a sincere passion for the child development field. I don't plan on teaching kindergarten for several years because I would miss preschool too much.

I would like to research the importance of preschool and how it contributes to a successful education. In addition, I would like to know the difference between preschool and transitional kindergarten, including curriculum and teacher's credentials.

I definitely would like to learn how to identify credible and non-credible information online. Technology and research are important tools, but knowing which ones are trustworthy is crucial.

Enjoy your week! Good luck in the class.

  1. Hi Misty, great job on your first post. It is great to meet somebody with the same passion as myself. From a young age, I knew I wanted to do something in the educational field that included smaller children. Watching my two small children grow it excites me to pursue my dream of being an elementary school teacher. I think that is awesome that you are a preschool teacher and enjoy it so much. It truly is inspiring when you see a person who loves their career! That is a great research topic you have chosen, a friend and I were just discussing what the differences of preschool and the transitional kindergarten are. I look forward to reading me of your blogs and gaining more knowledge on that topic.

  2. Hi Misty! So nice reading a little bit about you. I am a mother of three and a preschool teacher as well. I LOVE my job too! Isn't is the best job on the planet? I am also working on my degree so I can open up more opportunities for myself in the future. I don't plan on leaving preschool, but perhaps becoming a mentor teacher or director in the distant future. I can't wait to read what information you find regarding transitional kindergarten. I have many parents that had expected more and said that they would have preferred to have their child stay in my program for pre-k instead. It's all still a bit unclear to me as well. Best of luck on your research. I'll check back soon!

  3. Misty,

When I was young I also wanted to be a teacher. I have since taken a completely different career path and now work in law enforcement. I am completing my degree in Criminal Justice - Forensics. I have had the opportunity to instruct during a few police academy classes when I lived in Kansas. I very much enjoyed it. I have often thought that I may want to teach after I retire. Good luck with your career path. It takes special people to teach our little ones.
